- OAXACA, MEXICO - SPECIAL REPORT

REPORT, December the 5th of 2006. Very hard moments is living the city of Oaxaca, and the whole state. The goverment repression is being terrible and it is not safe at all visiting the city right now. There have been several reports about foreigners being bothered by police, and even some deportations. If you want to visit other sides of the state like the Pacific coast or so, you can do it but having big cautions.

General:

The situation is complex in the southern state of Oaxaca in Mexico since there are lots of ancient and news social issues without solution so now the trouble has scaled up at a point of violence, and it could even increase much more. Nevertheless the main zone where the conflic is shown is the capital city and some places in the pacific coast, both areas of a big turistical importance.

In the case of the city certainly the situation for the visitor can be not confortable as usually can be, but well, in the case of the confort is the most important aspect of a trip, i think it is much better choosing a completely different area. There are many small hoteles and even somebig ones open in the center of oaxaca city, and even becasue the conflict it could be possible to find budget offers to sleep there, the only issue to take care is that such hotels are not too far from centre, maybe some five blocks aways could be good enough at least while traveler get used to the city rythms. Anyway all this depends of the daily reports since situation is changing sometimes from a day to day.

In the case of the coast side, well, the main roblem can be reaching such places like Mazunte, Zipolite, Puerto Escondido, Huatulco, Puerto Angel since the main road to get there is also the road used for goberment police and army to get to the capital, and also the road used by organizations to move their people to the same point, so often suffer from obstacles, thus not possible to make plans, accurate ones at least, when crossing such points.

Ok, so, it is possible to make a trip good enough to Oaxaca right now? .. mm i would say yes, it is, but taking good cautions and among these ones, being informed well enough is absolutly basic.
