ISLA MUJERES

A few miles from Cancun, 13 to be exact, Isla Mujeres is located, a place that became famous 30 years ago by the shooting of Ramon Bravo diver from the cave of the sleeping sharks, since then it has exploited its natural attraction which is pretty impressive as other parts of the Caribbean. All can be reached by ferry leaving from Puerto Juarez, Cancun to Punta Sam. The island was probably and according to archeological versions, a place dedicated to Ixchel, Mayan deity connected with fertility and femininity of course, after the conquest, the island was used by pirates and slave traders and is now trying to get the largest possible gain selling it as a haven for ecotourism, which if true and discussed at the beginning is that in terms of natural landscape is impressive.

Pre-Hispanic only remains a beacon, or what was a possible light at the southern tip of the island.

LEVEL OF DANGER: The area in general does not have a very high level of risk compared with other parts of the country, however we will have to observe the precautions taken in highly touristic places like Cancun.
